Helsinki-3rd Month

Is it springtime?  I can’t tell.  The temperature finally rose above freezing, but there is still snow EVERYWHERE.  Guess that is Finland for you.  :)

So month three, March.

A lot to say about lovely March.  My brother, Ben, turned 23 (Happy Birthday again!) and my lovely sister, Jenni, came to visit on her birthday and turned 20 (Happy Birthday to you too!).  I was thrilled an honored to show her a goodtime in this beautiful country on her special day :)

I got to watch a futsal match and be the one and only cheerleader for the team.  It was interesting and entertaining!

I paid a visit to Santa and made my way all the way to northern Lapland and down through Norway.

I also got to enjoy a DELICIOUS meal with some local Vikings, and I must say they can cook!  We left with our tummies full, our faces tired from smiling and laughing, and full of fantastic memories.  Congrats again on your marriage you two!

And of course… the Fam came into town… It was amazing to see them again!  I was so anxious I couldn’t sleep and I ended up getting to the airport over an hour early.  But it was well worth it when I got to see them walk through the door.  It felt like we had never left each other.  But upon saying farewells, it was just as hard if not harder in comparison to my first goodbye.  For my sister brought up a good point, it’s not even the half waypoint of my odyssey.

Which I must say I am both ECSTATIC and nervous for.  I have had so much fun so far and had so many wonderful adventures, what in world do I still have to come?  Only time will tell… But man am I anxious and excited, overjoyed and curious, as to what they are!

  1. So glad you had a nice time with the family. Kyle and I are going to hear all about it tomorrow. :) Love the ice sculptures. What a life you are living right now! <3

  2. That Santa picture can go with your earlier Santa pictures. I have sure grandpa Tom would like that. I agree with your statement about saying "see you later" when we parted in Amsterdam. It was a great adventure we all had together, exploring Helsinki through your eyes, seeing Prague together, meeting your friends, laughing, etc. I am now using my mantra to get through missing by saying, "Don't cry because it is over. Smile because it happened." I am smiling.
    Love you so very much,
    Mum

  3. Wise words [as usual] from your mum! What experiences, what sights and what people you are encountering. Never to forget, hopefully to repeat.

Another two+ months until your saga comes to an end, but really a new beginning because of all the friendships and knowledge you've garnered. If I could sing a camp song to you that I learned in the summer of 1954 while working at Aurora College-YMCA Conference Center in Williams Bay of Lake Geneva -- it goes like this: "So long, we'll see you again, see you again someday -- For after all this world is small; we'll meet along life's way. Good luck to you, God bless you, too -- but not goodbye we'll say -- But so long, we'll see you again, see you again someday!" -- Love you -- Grandpa Tom
